Our Client is currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and we are seeking a Section Engineer to help establish and manage the delivery of logistical operations associated with a large technical civil engineering project. To manage the technical compliance to the project requirements and design specification in order to fulfil the assigned section safely, compliantly and on time and to the required quality.
Due to the site being a high Security Military Navy base, additional security checks will need to be made - BPSS/SC level of security clearance is required. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU & NATO member passports can be considered for this role.
As a Section Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:
Manage the preparation of ‘as-built records’.
Assist with the scoping and establishment of logistics hubs.
Communicating effectively at all levels including site management, technical specialists, commercial staff, planners, engineers, supervisory staff operatives, suppliers, third parties and client representatives.
Maintaining high personal standards in health and safety.
Monitoring the work and ensuring adoption of project safety and environmental initiatives.
Maintaining high standards in environmental awareness and behaviour.
Driving quality delivery through effective planning and right first-time delivery.
Leading, supervising and mentoring site engineering staff.
Monitoring and recording delivery against the agreed programme and construction methods.
Maintaining good working relations with delivery teams, support functions, client, designer, supply chain and others.
Making sure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction and procurement of the works before commencement and during operations.
Formally requesting any missing information in sufficient time to meet the programme.
Ensuring that logistics requirements are accurately and clearly set out before work commences.
Confirming by recording in writing, on the same day, any verbal instructions received from the client / clients representative.
Ensuring that comprehensive records of resources employed on all works are maintained.
Ensuring that Inspection and Test Plans and checklist are in place and followed at the appropriate stages.
Completing daily diary records and ensuring they are also being maintain by others under your supervision.
Preparing "look ahead" programmes and reports in conjunction with the supervisory staff, coordinated with overall site programme.
Monitoring and reporting progress against "look ahead" programmes.
Ensuring written risk assessments and activity plans/method statements are in place prior to works commencing.
Ensuring that COSHH assessments are in place for materials to be used and that the requirements are being followed.
Identifying, recording, and reporting change to the scope of works or programme.
Ensuring that testing / sampling of materials is carried out as required by the specification.
Recording and reporting Non-Conformances and ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken.
Ensuring materials and workmanship meet the specification and maintaining appropriate records and proofs.
Ensuring work records are being kept and in line with the project requirements.
Undertaking performance and development reviews as required and following up on the development activities identified.
Contributing to the monthly and quarterly commercial forecast and reporting for your section of works.
Ensure that comprehensive records of all resources employed on additional works are maintained and submitted for signature within 24 hours of the work being carried out.
Complete Observation cards if you observe something unsafe, damaging to the environment or good enough to share with others. Encourage others to complete the same.
Producing waste reconciliation sheets on delivered materials within your work section and compare with tender allowances.
Attending and participating in daily safety briefings, activity plan briefings and toolbox talks.
Carrying out other relevant duties as required from time to time.
Establishing effective systems to record work completed updating the Project Quality Plan accordingly.
To manage systems to enable the progress of work to be reviewed against time, quality, dimensions and quantity.
Assist in the recording and testing of and materials, i.e., reinforcement, formwork, drainage, concrete, piling, brickwork etc.
Route planning and use of VMS and Pod systems.
Material and vehicle forecasting.
Provides engineering support to ensure technical problems are overcome and technical queries are answered.
Responsible for setting out works constructed within allowable tolerances.
Regularly checking the setting out points and benchmarks and checking that all setting out instruments and measuring equipment are delivered to site with a calibration certificate and recorded accordingly.
Ensures workforce understand setting out information has been identified as suitable for the type of work being carried out.
Manage the preparation of sketches for distribution on site, ensuring clear communication channels are in place for effective understanding.
To be aware of the provisions of the Clients Safety, Health and Environmental Management System and to assist in its implementation to ensure a safe working environment.
Responsible for providing and maintaining setting out and dimensional control, to ensure accurate construction of the work.
Record instructions.
Maintain material and plant/equipment register.
Assist with the management of lifting operations.
Who are we looking for?
* Degree, HND,HNC, NVQ in Construction/Engineering/Logistics or equivalent
* CSCS
* May be working towards Chartership/Incorporation with an appropriate professional body.
* SSSTS
* Experience in similar role.
* Understanding of consents, logistics, Vehicle Management Systems and traffic management.
* Awareness of commercial processes.
* Proven people and project management skills.
* Team leader with technical and organisational skills.
