We are recruiting an Exterior Systems Design Engineer for one of our automotive clients based in Cranfield.
You will be working for a globally recognised automotive company. This is a long-term contract role. The contract is on an ongoing basis a may run for several years.
Key Responsibilities of the Exterior Systems Design Engineer:
• The scope will cover exterior lighting, mirrors, wiper/wash/cowl cover and horn.
• The person will be expected to carry out design activities related to innovative technologies / cost optimisation / break through ideas related to BEV (Battery EV) vehicles – focusing on future vehicles as well as current production.
• Study technical solutions (benchmark, FMEA, design parts and systems etc), build business case (cost analysis) and whilst managing stakeholders, lead development of supplier produced parts to implement design changes to improve product competitiveness.
• Managing in-development parts and suppliers to meet quality, cost and delivery targets.
Bill Of Materials management.
• Travel is required to other client facilities, for build support and design reviews, as well as suppliers for part inspections and technical meetings.
• Actively participate in design reviews sharing their knowledge and experience.
• The primary place of work will be Cranfield but flexible working from home in line with the rest of the business will be allowed.
• Development of exterior system parts to meet the design/performance and styling intention.
• Support development of commodity strategies to strengthen product competitiveness.
• Design release of parts on time and on budget.
• Supplier management including design, test, quality and timing to achieve key project milestones.
• Clear and concise reporting of concerns and part development/delivery issues.
Qualifications & Experience for the Exterior Systems Design Engineer:
• Degree level qualification in engineering such as mechanical, electrical, automotive, or aerospace.
• Experience in exterior lighting system design.
• Knowledge of Siemens NX CAD and Teamcenter or similar CAD software.
• Time management and prioritisation skills to confidently manage multiple projects within set deadlines.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Valid driving license
Hours & Pay for the Exterior Systems Design Engineer:
• Monday to Friday
• 39 hours per week
