Job Description
The Transit Priority Team is a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative team delivering projects that improve reliability on San Francisco’s busiest transit corridors. These projects are part of Muni Forward, a transformative program that is making the city’s transit system more efficient, reliable, and equitable. The team has implemented over 90 miles of Muni Forward transit priority upgrades since 2014, with an ambitious set of new projects planned in the years ahead.
The 5289 Transit Planner III will play a key role in implementing Muni Forward by developing, planning, and implementing projects to increase reliability and improve the customer experience for Muni riders along key corridors and at targeted transit delay “hot spots”. This position will work with a collaborative team of planners, engineers and communication experts in design, environmental review and outreach that ultimately culminates in SFMTA Board approval. The ability to navigate complex political and outreach environments and a strong commitment to public transportation are essential to delivering these improvements.
Examples of Important and Essential Duties:
Develops, plans, implements, and evaluates transit priority projects that improve efficiency, enhance the customer experience, and improve safety on the transit network.
Leads the planning and implementation of quick-build improvements to enhance reliability key corridors and at transit delay hot-spots.
Prepares materials for public and stakeholder meetings and presents to various community and policy making groups.
Prepares correspondence in response to public or other agency inquiries.
Develops reports based on key metrics that translate the progress and impact of Muni Forward to various stakeholders including, but not limited to, project funding partners.
Develops maps and conducts spatial analyses to support transit priority projects.
Analyzes transit data (e.g. ridership, crowding, reliability, running time) and provides recommendations for improving transit reliability and travel time.
Analyzes and evaluate transit planning materials related to transit operations, street improvement and construction projects, transportation policy, demographics, etc.
Actively represents Muni in the planning, coordination, and implementation of projects from other divisions or City agencies that may affect transit reliability.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
