About you and this role

In this role, you will provide technical support and process operation for the Barry Process Research and Development team. Full time position 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, this role is a temporary contract until at least mid June 2025.

Responsibilities

· Works as part of a team in a laboratory supporting chemists and engineers.

· Manages and then safely executes laboratory work requests, maintaining and running laboratory reactors and documenting data.

· Follows detailed procedures closely and accurately and reliably records readings and observations using relevant equipment and instruments.

· Acts responsible for safe operation and routine maintenance of laboratory reactors and feed systems, troubleshoots faulty equipment, and effects repairs or initiates repair processes as appropriate. Appropriately documents maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities.

· Demonstrates proficient application of lab safety program including Life Critical Standards. Writes safe work permits and performs equipment isolations.

· Promptly and effectively communicates issues to project teams and lab leadership in order to enable or accelerate problem resolution.

· Actively participates in work group team meetings to address safety, process improvement, problem solving, and other work group, department, and functional topics.

Qualifications

· Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry or 2+ years of relevant process operation or laboratory experience required.

· Demonstrated track record of initiative, time-management, and problem-solving skills applied to identifying, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks.

· Experience working in teams and employing interpersonal skills to influence actions

· Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and be able to learn new systems quickly.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

· Experience with laboratory reactors and/or rotating equipment

· Experience with instrument and electrical installation, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

· Experience or knowledge of a management of change, procedure use, safe work permitting, and isolation of energy sources processes.

· Experience or familiarity operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical instruments, such as gas chromatographs (GC).
