We are currently recruiting for Community Safety Intervention Officers based in the Birmingham area.

The ideal candidate will be Educated to A Level/NVQ level 3, or equivalent knowledge and understanding.

Job Purpose

To deliver a consistent, excellent, reliable, customer focused service on behalf of Birmingham City Council Community Safety Team
Undertaking the full range of community safety duties which may vary according to the size and profile of the area. Including but not limited to, street patrols, visits, attending partnership meetings, working with communities and building relationships with partners.
Using prevention, early intervention education and enforcement approaches. Work in accordance with BCCs policy and related procedures and in compliance with all relevant legislating Eg - Crime & Disorder Act, ASB Act, regulatory codes, guidance and professional practice.
To undertake investigations, build evidence packs, complete reports, and as necessary attend Court
Will play a proactive role in the provision of a multi-agency problem solving service around victim, offender and location.
To be assigned, as part of a flexible and responsive service, to designated service areas, projects or issues according to the needs and priorities of the businessDuties & Responsibilities

Case management - maintain accurate case management and other administrative records according to the required standards and procedures and by using appropriate IT systems.
Investigate and respond to complaints and enquiries within corporate standards and timescales. Develop and lead on partnership action plans to resolve complex ASB issues, giving consideration to short, medium- and long-term impact. Investigate complaints sent to the community safety team and build an evidence pack for Court and were appropriate attend Court and give evidence.
Will regularly prepare and present, reports to internal and external audiences on the performance of the activities under your control and make recommendations on a course of action where appropriate
Will attend and lead in meetings with partners including resident groups to assess the ongoing requirements of the service and determine appropriate actions to respond to findings.
Working with customers and staff, ensure the proper council policy and in compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory codes, guidance and professional practice and internal policy and procedures. Take appropriate action when conditions have been breached.
Meet all relevant key performance indicators and individual targets and objectives
Assist residents by giving advice on Council services and signpost customers to the appropriate internal and external agencies ensuring that any safeguarding issues / concerns are reported accordingly.
Conduct yourself in line with Birmingham City Council Values and Behaviours during customer interactions including face to face interviews, home visits, telephone calls, inline, email and written correspondence, social media, community meetings and council business meetings. Contribute to the production of regular newsletters, annual reports, and social media postings etc.
Identify and proactively work with partners, internally, externally and within the communities to resolve ASB issues with early interventions directly or to bring in partners to resolve issues. This could include carrying out street patrols, joint visits/patrols with partners and working along side communities.
Using a holistic, problem solving and cost-effective approach, establish contacts and participate with multi agency forums and where appropriate act as lead agency with regard to community safety issues.
Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Act and Human Rights Act and the Equalities Act
Respond to all telephone and email enquires in a polite and helpful manner following Birmingham City Council's protocol.
Engage, work and signpost residents and communities within Birmingham to proactively take ownership of their roads/streets and communities to increase the feeling of safety, support the community safety agenda. This will include but not limited to building community capacity.
Promote and actively support BCC safeguarding policies and procedures, carry out appropriate assessments to inform effective referral or signposting to appropriate service areas or agencies.
Ensure that all working practices, methods, materials, uniforms PPE and equipment conform to the requirements of current Health and Safety Legislation and appropriate safe working practices are implemented, Including identifying health and safety training needs for staff and services under your control.
Ensure information systems are updated with appropriate data to support performance monitoringExperience required

Experience of building effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders and influencing at all levels and areas across the council, voluntary sector, communities and other partners.

Proven experience of showing organisation skills working in a pressurised environment, with various conflicting priorities

Experience of working in a partnership setting and managing cross organisations priorities, both internally and externally to deliver solutions to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and increase community confidence.

Skills & Abilities

Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to apply these through a range of media to internal and external audiences with differing needs.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a proactive, problem solving approach.

Ability to investigate complex cases and pull evidence packages together to a legal standard, to build partnership action plans to resolve complex issues.

Understanding of and ability to comply with relevant legislation, including health and safety and equality in service delivery, service provision and employment.
