Deputy Lead Core Responsibilities
• Uphold the highest standards of professionalism and adhere to the NMC/HCPC code of conduct, depending on your registration body.
• Monitor and contribute to the delivery of patient care.
• Respect and maintain patients' dignity, privacy, wishes, and beliefs.
• Engage in hands-on clinical activities within the theatre suite.
• Encourage, develop, and enhance the skills and knowledge of yourself and others.
• Promote evidence-based best practices.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures, and guide others to do the same.
• Provide administrative, organizational, and managerial support to the Theatre Manager.
• Demonstrate strong coaching leadership within the operating theatre to develop a high-performing team.
• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care with tenacity, passion, and drive to achieve success in a rapidly changing environment.
• Develop controls for monitoring and managing continuous skills improvement plans for the theatre team.
• Assist in achieving the theatre department's key performance indicator targets.
• Establish effective controls for monitoring and managing clinical records.
• Lead by example in complying with all statutory quality standards and policies.
• Assist the Theatre Manager with clinically based projects aimed at the development and growth of the operating theatre.

Deputy Lead Main Duties and Key Accountabilities
• Adhere to AFPP staffing guidelines to ensure appropriate skill mix and adequate staffing levels.
• Participate in the daily briefing (huddle) before surgical lists begin and ensure the WHO surgical safety checklist is completed for all patients.
• Complete all written documentation efficiently.
• Serve as a role model and mentor to staff on departmental and hospital-wide matters.
• Ensure the working environment is safe and complies with company and legal requirements and guidelines.
• Follow all hospital policies, including those related to infection control.
• Participate in staff appraisals, 1:1 meetings, and performance management.
• Collaborate closely with the procurement department.
• Liaise with the sterile services department.
• Arrange hire kits for upcoming surgeries.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Assist and support the Theatre Manager with additional departmental tasks.
• Be accountable for your own work standards.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Attend training sessions to improve practice standards.
• Support colleagues and work cooperatively to foster good team morale.
• Work actively to uphold the standards set by The Care Quality Commission.
• Review and update Risk Assessments and department SOPs.
• Ensure monthly audits are completed and address any highlighted areas.
• Participate in staffing rota and allocations.
• Assist with recruitment, induction, and management of new staff.
• Provide clinical support to the theatre team.
• Participate in the on-call rota Monday to Friday and weekends.

Leadership
• Assist in developing and implementing new and existing Sulis Hospital policies and practices within the Department.
• Support the integration of new staff into the Department by ensuring mentorship and induction at the start of employment, along with access to ongoing professional development and mandatory training. Ensure proper records of mandatory training are maintained.
• Foster a culture where each staff member takes responsibility for their performance and continuous development.
• Facilitate an environment where clinical staff can exchange information to ensure high-quality patient care and smooth operating lists.
• Establish and maintain effective communication between the Department and other departments within Sulis Hospital.
