Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Water)

Location: Northwest / Various Locations

Salary:  up to £55k d.o.e.

We are seeking experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineers to join our client’s team, working on major long-term frameworks within the UK water industry. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to significant projects that enhance river health and water services across the Northwest of England and beyond.

Responsibilities:

Work on diverse projects within major long-term frameworks for water companies across the UK.
Deliver successful project outcomes that benefit both the community and the environment.
Collaborate closely with Senior and Principal Engineers, supporting project delivery.
Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering their development.
Interpret technical drawings using tools like AutoCAD and Inventor.
Conduct asset condition surveys and prepare detailed reports with recommendations.
Contribute to the creation of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Develop comprehensive mechanical design deliverables, including calculations, reports, specifications, and procurement documentation.
Support the project team in complying with CDM regulations, including creating design risk assessments.
Adhere to Quality Assurance systems and procedures.
Key Skills/Attributes & Experience:

Strong grasp of mechanical engineering principles.
Experience in the water industry is highly advantageous.
Proficiency in designing pumping systems and pump selection.
Ability to use P&IDs for equipment, valve, and pipe schedules.
Experience in producing specifications and adhering to CDM regulations.
Familiarity with various contract procurement methods, ideally including ECC (NEC) forms.
Capable of managing work to meet time, cost, and quality standards.
Supportive of junior staff's technical development.
Willingness to travel to operational and construction sites for surveys and inspections.
Knowledge of design tools such as AutoCAD is beneficial but not essential.
Qualifications: 

IMechE accredited degree in Mechanical Engineering; postgraduate qualifications are a plus.
Chartered status or working towards chartership.
Membership or working towards membership of professional institutions like IET, InstMC, or CIWEM.
